Ordesa - Cola Caballo - Senda Cazadores

Lasting: 9hours

Difficulty: -

Kilometres: -km.

Route begins at parking lot of Ordesa Park. There are two routes that take you to Cola de Caballo water fall. One is Pradera de Ordesa which is the easiest and more popular, but less fun as you come and go along the same trail. The second is the Senda de los Cazadores (Hunter´s Trail) which returns along the former. Here we describe the latter.

First we come across a bridge which leads straight to the Senda de los Cazadores. Looking for the dark green landmarks to guide us as in all the park.

At first the incline is a bit tough, then about an hour- and- a- half depending on the pace. At the top we find The Mirador de Calcilarruego look-out point where we canj take in the whole valley from a bird´s eye point of view. Simply Amazing!

From here on, the trail (Faja de Pelay) is much easier, although the terrain is a bit rocky along the edge of a cliff. There aren´t too many inclines here, mostly downhill. With binoculars we can spot mountain goats, and see all the wildlife. Photos are worth taking all along this route because the landscape is beautiful. As the valley opens in front of us (Circo de Soaso) the waterfall appears in the distance. As we descend, we will follow the Azaras River straight to the famous fall. It takes about two hours from the Calcilarruego look-out point. The 70-meter fall is impressive as it forms a pool at the foot. You can go right up to the edge of the pool and enjoy the marvellous natural spectacle..

The return to the prairie is along the other route. First we will pass the Circo de Soaso, which we saw from above, and follow the river to our left until we find the Gradas De Soaso (A stair of waterfalls worth stopping to contemplate, and why not, take a photo) and the Estrecho Waterfall.

Past the prairie-valley the trail enters the forests from which we can take a small (5- Minute) detour to see the Arripas Waterfall and a few others from natural balconies.

Almost back at the bridge we can look back and see the mountain to our left and the view-point up where we had been in the morning. Just the thought of having been up there is impressive.

Finally we reach the parking or prairie alter 8/10 hours of hiking.
